Intervals on unfamiliar ground.
Still on holiday with the camper, today’s run felt more like a trail session than a structured interval workout (ADIDAS RUNNING). The rocky, uneven paths, which I’m not accustomed to, forced me to focus differently than on my usual routes.
The day started again with knee problems, probably from my back. At 6.00 am I treated it with ibuprofen, a hot water bottle, and some stretching exercises. After resting a little longer, the pain subsided, and in the late morning, around 11.30 am, I finally set off on my planned interval run.
I used komoot to plan a loop starting through the campsite, then along the beach. It was busier than I’m used to, with many people sunbathing. I warmed up slowly, though the heat made it tough to establish a rhythm.
Parts of the trail were very rocky,

but the sea view was stunning. I stopped briefly to take photos and videos when I reached a beautiful bay.
From there, the path climbs through the forest. It was challenging to follow the trail at times, and I nearly stumbled badly but caught myself just in time.

Despite the tricky footing, my back and running posture felt strong. Shade from the trees was a blessing because the temperatures were high and I was dripping with sweat.
The rocky sections made it difficult to run true intervals at the planned pace. I still managed to hit the red heart rate zone, even if the speed wasn’t quite what I wanted. Uphill was especially tough, but I pushed through, and later, on smoother paths and asphalt near the town, I picked up speed and enjoyed some faster stretches.
I cut the route slightly shorter than planned, but the one-hour run still gave me the training effect I needed. I was tired but in good spirits. After electrolytes, a shower, and a very late breakfast, I felt refueled.
My running shoes I wore weren’t ideal for this rocky, uneven terrain, something to keep in mind for future runs. Running intervals on rough terrain was new for me, and it added both challenge and awareness.
“Even when the ground feels unstable, effort and focus can turn it into valuable strength work.“
