Overcoming Low Motivation (Run#17)

When the body resists, the mind insists.

Before today’s run my motivation was low, but I packed my things and set off anyway. Again, I planned my path with komoot; today, asphalt.

From the campsite I ran toward the harbor and through the town. The narrow streets were crowded, which made it frustrating to find space.

A steep climb early on served as my warm-up, and once I reached the main road, I was glad to be on the cycle path, smooth asphalt, though exposed to the sun. Despite forecasts of rain, it was hot and windy with no shade, which made the effort even harder.

The route itself was beautiful at times, with views of the sea, waves, and seabirds. But reaching the yacht harbor dampened my mood; the sight of huge boats reminded me of environmental issues rather than giving me joy. I took a short pause there before continuing.

I fueled with gels at around 40 minutes and later again during the run, which helped, but I underestimated my hydration. By the halfway point, I had already consumed more than half of my water. Music kept me motivated on the way back, and although I couldn’t stick perfectly to the planned heart rate zones, I managed a steady effort through the climbs.

Physically, I felt my muscles working hard, especially on the uphill stretches, but the pain in my left leg stayed with me throughout. Mentally, the run was challenging: my body wanted rest, but I also know how important running is for my mind.

The way back took me uphill again past olive trees, then downhill toward Krk. Running through town was once again frustrating with the heavy crowds, so I headed back to the campsite.

Exhausted but relieved, I refueled with oats, banana, tea, and cappuccino. A shower and fresh clothes felt like the real reward. On a positive note, the shoes worked perfectly for the asphalt sections. Even while traveling, a long run on unfamiliar streets reminded me that persistence matters more than perfect conditions. 

When motivation is low, showing up is the real victory.
