Finding Balance in Post-Vacation Running (Run#18)

Trusting the rhythm of recovery and routine.

After getting back late from vacation last night, I let myself sleep in. Around 9:30 am I finally got up, had an electrolyte drink, did a bit of tidying in the camper, and only then got ready to run. It reminded me that training doesn’t always need to be rushed, taking the time to arrive, focus, and settle makes the run itself more enjoyable.

I started slowly (Fartlek Run, 1h, ADIDAS RUNNING ) before moving into the faster intervals, which felt great today. I made a conscious choice to focus on the mental balance running gives me: being present, relaxed, and at ease. The intervals worked well, and even though the weather felt a bit “in between”, not quite warm, not quite cool, not too dry, not too humid, my body handled it well.

My knee gave a small reminder once or twice, but nothing serious. Toward the end, during the final 3-minute fast interval, I pushed as hard as I could and really hit my limit, and that was satisfying. I also noticed some tension around the hip flexors, which showed me that my posture was good, and the muscles were working.

I drank plenty of water afterward and refueled with banana, oats, and cappuccino, the perfect recovery treat.

Slow starts can still lead to strong finishes when I focus on the balance running brings me.
