Self-Care in Running (Run#29)

Rediscovering joy in simplicity.

I allowed myself to sleep in today and went for a run around midday, when the sun was shining and the air had warmed. The run itself was wonderful. I just ran at my pace, without pressure, and simply enjoyed it. Yes, it was effortful at times but also deeply satisfying. Moments of pure happiness reminded me once again why I love running.

Although the distance was “only” 5 km, the word “only” does not adequately describe the experience. Every distance is an achievement, and this one felt truly rewarding. My body felt comfortable and relaxed, even with a touch of muscle soreness from yesterday’s strenth training.

Yesterday evening I had also given my body some extra care: a yoga session with long, deep stretches, and later a little ritual for my feet; a foot bath, peeling, massage, cream, and care. It made a difference today; my hips and glutes felt looser, and my feet stronger and more alive.

Sometimes joy doesn’t come from speed or distance, but from honoring both effort and care. Today’s run was exactly that: light, fun, and full of gratitude.

Sometimes the greatest runs aren’t about distance but about how deeply we care for body and mind. Joy grows where effort meets self-care.
